A 1940s beautiful brown suit. What a beauty! I can see Lauren Bacall or Veronica Lake in this gorgeous 1940s tailored suit.
The jacket has two shallow front pockets, each accented with 3 buttons. The sleeves have “turn up” cuffs secured with stitching. The gorgeous tailoring and padded shoulders give that signature Forties’ “nipped in waist” look. The jacket is fastened with a single button. The lovely skirt has two short hem vents. The jacket is lined; the skirt is not. I’m not sure about the fabric but it has been described as wool gabardine.
Size: Jacket – Bust 35-36″; Waist 31″; Hips 41″. Skirt – Waist 30″ Hips 40″
Similar to today’s UK Size 10 to 12. I would recommend measuring, flat, similar garments in your wardrobe and doubling the measurements. Of course, if you can visit our beautiful shop in Winchester you can try her on in our lovely dressing room.
Condition: This vintage lady is not perfect – but who is? There is a small hole in one shoulder of the jacket and another in the front of the skirt but with a suitable slip worn underneath who would notice? At over 70 years old this original 1940s suit is bound to have some flaws but isn’t her history part of her beauty? I do have additional photos so please just email me on firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like more information and/or photos.
