A beautiful 1940s Dress with detailed piping, front and back, pleated detail to the bodice and a sash belt. A gorgeous dress whether you’re a vintage fan or simply looking for something stunning and original!
I’m not sure what the fabric is but it does have a slight sheen or reflective quality to it. It may be a linen mix of some kind. Some of the piping embellishment you can see on the front of the dress is repeated on the back. This 1940s dress is not lined.
Approximate measurements (garment is measured flat across the back and the measurement is doubled):
Length from shoulder to hem 41″
This vintage dress may be a size 14 in 2020 sizing or, possibly, a 16 but we advise measuring a similar piece from your wardrobe and allowing a little bit for comfort! The dress has been taken in along the side seams so you might gain an inch on each hip if you let out the seams. There is about a 4″ side vent at the hem on the left side of the dress.
Please note: this dress has a shallow side zip so she has to be fitted over the head.
This stunning 1940s dress is in very good condition for her age (unlike me!). There are marks on the sash belt though these can be hidden in the folds of the sash. There is a small mark near the side zip. The buckle has some wear to the fabric but I’m sure it wouldn’t stop Barbara Stanwyck sashaying her way across the room! She may have been home-sewn, by a very good seamstress, but the hanging loops inside the shoulders look frayed and home-made. Personally, I would snip them out but it’s your choice.
A 1940s dress that endures in style and elegance.
