Product Description
A stunning 1960s Gown by Susan Small in pale green. Although the dress is a Sixties’ piece, you could imagine Ginger Rogers wearing her! She certainly suggests the glamour and elegance of Old Hollywood.
This beautiful vintage 1960s evening dress has a bodice of horizontal pleats which just fits over the hips. From there the skirt flares out to give the most elegant gown worthy of a ’10’ from everyone on the “Strictly Come Dancing” judging panel! There’s no doubt you would simply float across the dance floor in this beautiful chiffon dress.
This gown has a metal zip in the back. I imagine the inside loops (for the purpose of hanging her without putting too much tension on the shoulder straps) may have been sewn in later.
Measured flat – in inches – and the measurements doubled :
Bust 32″
Waist 27-28″
Hips 37-38″
Length from underarm to hem 48″ with about an extra 5 inches to shoulder from top of bodice.
Therefore, the dress may be like today’s UK 8 but please measure, flat, a similar garment that you love to ensure fit.
“Susan Small” was a ready-to-wear clothing firm founded in the 1940s by Leslie Carr Jones and was particularly popular in the 1950s and 1960s for its occasion wear.
Condition report: There was a hole in the hem (no doubt from a shoe heel) so the dress has been professionally taken up. I cannot see any marks but please expect some wear as this vintage original is over 50 years old; that’s a lot of dancing!
My photograph really doesn’t do this beautiful gown justice, especially the colour. My camera seems to suggest a muted, dull green when, in fact, the shade is much more of a pale, light green if that makes sense! I will try to add another photograph when I can but if you’re planning a day out to Winchester, she’s a very good reason to visit us!
All you need now, is your very own Fred!
