A stunning vintage red cocktail dress by British designer, Jean Allen. Someone has described this lovely dress as, pink, but I consider it more of a cherry red. Hopefully, the photos give a good representation of its beautiful, rich colour.
The fabric may be crepe or chiffon; it is certainly soft. The bodice is ruched with a bow and drape detail. The dress is doubled lined with the second lining sewn, at intervals, to the inside of the hem of the dress. I’m sure this adds to that lovely “rustling” sound as you sashay across the cocktail lounge! The bodice has stays, which I’m assuming are plastic, to add shape and support to the bust. To add an even more alluring look, the dress has a leg split on the left side of the dress (same side as the drape detail). This measures approx 12 inches. This dress just gets hotter and hotter!
Approx measurements: Bust: 34″; Waist 29″; Hips 37/8″ Similar to today’s UK Size 10
This is a truly gorgeous, and elegant, gown from a designer who started her own fashion house in 1955. Jean Allen dresses continued to be popular through the 60s and 70s and, more recently, the fashion house launched a collection in 2015. Sadly, Jean Allen herself, is no longer with us but we are still able to admire and enjoy her beautiful gowns.
