Condition report: Of course, these shoes bear the signs of dancing many nights away and being swept across that ballroom. They are so beautiful, who wouldn’t have wanted to wear them? At over 90 years old I think we can forgive some wear but, having said that, they are in remarkably good condition. They also bear the markings of the life they went on to have, as part of a theatrical costumier’s wardrobe. The lady who owned the costumier’s marked the shoes with a name and a number inside the shoes. It may be that the demands made on the shoes by filming (which can be quite light) helped them to maintain their good look over so many years.
These shoes are beautiful and deserve to dance the light fantastic for many more years to come.
