Product Description
Beautiful antique Victorian Gilt Belt Buckle with enamel.
There are eight areas of enamel in pink, blue, white and black. Each enamel area has additional gilt detail.
Approx size: height – almost 3 inches; width – 1 inches
Condition report: A small crack in one area of enamel (please see photo below). The gilt markings have also worn off in this area. In two other enamel areas, the gilt markings have, also, worn slightly. However, for a buckle of such an age, it is not surprising that some of the fine gilt has been worn away. She remains a stunning piece of fashion history.
A beautiful gilt metal and enamel buckle, perfect belt buckle for a skirt, dress or jacket. Originally, this buckle was dated to the Regency period but having taken further advice from another expert in historical costume, we have re-dated it to slightly later so that it may now fall into the early part of the Victorian period – the 1830s or 1840s. I must confess, I never felt happy at the thought of a buckle this size being worn on the Empire LIne. However, whatever the age, I hope you will agree that she remains a stunning antique belt buckle.
