Product Description
This beautiful vintage satin bed jacket has two narrow pale blue ribbons for tying at the front and two shallow appliqued pockets at the front. The jacket and sleeves are edged with lace. A real sweetie for a lover of vintage lingerie.
Approx Size:
In today’s UK sizing, I would say it is a size 10. The jacket is modelled on a vintage bust which measures about 36″ but it may depend on how you wish to wear it. If you are a size 12 and want to wear the jacket open, or with some cleavage, you might be alright but please compare the width of the sleeve with something that already fits you. Vintage clothing can have narrow sleeves. The sleeves on this piece measure 6 inches in width. Otherwise, I would suggest the jacket fits a 34 inch bust or a small cup 36″.
In relation to her age she could date anywhere from the 1930s (when serging, or overlocking, stitching became more popular in ready-to-wear fashion) to the 1950s. The fabric has the appearance of satin but it could be rayon. Again, in the 1930s, rayon became a much more affordable alternative to silk so it could well be rayon. Either way, she feels and looks very luxurious – but then I may be biased!
Condition:
I could only find two small ‘bruises’ to the fabric on the back shoulder and a small tear to the lace trim on the right sleeve just under the arm. She’s in very good condition for her age – which is more than can be said for me!
This beautiful vintage satin bed jacket could also be worn as a bolero. Maybe over a top? Or with a dress to add some Hollywood glamour a la Harlow? Even in the summer this jacket would be a lovely, light accessory.
