A gorgeous vintage powder compact fashioned as a small camera. Appropriately enough in Lipstick Red! This lovely piece is a little voyage of delights as you discover its secrets!
The front of the compact, or carry all, is opened by pressing a button on the top revealing a mirror and a compartment for loose face powder together with the original sifter. The top of the ‘camera’ has what looks like a larger button but is, in fact, a push-up lipstick container which can be pulled out for use.
The reverse of the carry all opens up to reveal a beautiful tooled metal finish and a further compartment that can be divided into 3 areas by 2 pieces of metal – one is spring-loaded and shaped to hold up to 5 cigarettes. In my photos I have placed a door key in that space to show that you don’t have to be a smoker to find this vintage item practical as well as beautiful! Behind this is another hinged piece of metal which can also be used to keep things secure such as folded money.

Condition: This lovely piece looks hardly used. There are some scratches to the metal surfaces inside the carry all. The mirror is a little misted but could still be used or replaced, if you prefer. There is some tarnish to the exterior metal areas but the red leather is in very good condition. On the reverse there is a tiny black dot and a very small indentation to the leather. This is such a lovely piece of fashion history with a sense of elegance and fun while being functional, too! I think they were popular from the 1930s to the 1950s so it is difficult to precisely date this particular compact but I would say she may date from either the 1940s or the 1950s.
